Last week I won a provincial humorous speech competition. I have been performing comedy for years now but winning made me think. If I was asked to pinpoint my pursuit of the funny began, I would have to say it was: “These Boots…’. Growing up in Lethbridge by the ripe old age of 13, sure, I had done the funny voices in the playground, pratfalls, practicing a spit takes and double takes in the mirror. I had cut my teeth in innumerable skits in camp, church and Boy Scouts.

For close to a decade, Lethbridge’s ‘Potemkin Collective’ has been organizing themed group exhibitions in alternative spaces throughout the city. Their mission and mandate has always been to nurture the ‘gallery’ space as a site for creativity and play, and to break down the schisms and divisions that polarize art-styles and disciplines.
